Personal & Specialist Observation Training

In addition to the Private Detective, Company Investigation and Screening services that the Haagsch Detective Office has to offer, it is also possible to train as an observer. With our Inconspicuous and Safe Driving (OVR) and Unobtrusive and Safe Observing (OVO) courses, we will get you ready for real work within four months. In this blog, you can read exactly what this unique course and the Haagsche Recherche Academie entail.

Observation Training

Our four-month course is provided at the HBO (+) level and has 12 available training places each year. You will receive group and one-on-one lessons. As a result, the course is extremely personal and exclusive. The course pays attention, among other things, to covers, cover materials, procedures, counter-observation, sight lines, covert tools and reports. In addition, we are the only one in the Netherlands that offers specialized driving training. All our instructors have a specialist background in the field and share their knowledge and expertise.

Target group

Anyone who wants to work as a freelance observer is welcome to join our course. It is not necessary to have a background in a similar field. However, this is a follow-up to the Private Investigator course, so you must have completed it. Because our course is so small and personal, it is quite possible to follow it alongside your current job.

Selection procedure

Before you are accepted for our course, you will first go through a selection process. This procedure consists of six steps and ensures that we are sure that you are made for this job and so that neither of us is in for any surprises.

First of all, you will visit our office in The Hague without obligation and free of charge. Here we discuss your motivation, work history and judicial history. This is followed by a 4-hour test, where we look at your overall traffic insight, driving ability and growth. After this test, you will receive an extensive report with advice from us. To make sure you have never been in contact with the judiciary before, we will then apply for an extensive VOG for you. Afterwards, you sign a Statement of Integrity & Reliability. In this statement, we discuss confidentiality, the use of the knowledge gained and a statement about your judicial past. Finally, we ask for a copy of your ID and driver's license. When all these steps are completed, we will apply for your yellow pass and you will have access to our unique OVR & OVO course.

Contents

The observer training consists of six different modules: observation techniques, specialist driving, legal frameworks, use of specialist tools, photography & videography and research & reporting.

During multiple real-life scenarios, you will be introduced to various observation techniques. Through our specialized driving teachers, you will learn to drive unobtrusively and safely (OVR) in three days. In addition, you will receive knowledge of the laws and regulations that you must comply with as a private researcher, the use of GPS beacons, drones and thermal imaging cameras, and we will also instruct you how to capture evidence in both still and moving images. Finally, you will learn how to report all your findings correctly.

Structure

The course consists of three parts. First of all, we will start with our unique driving training. During these three days, you will learn to follow unobtrusively and drive in a specialist way throughout the Netherlands. The next part is tactical training. Here, in two days, you will learn all the theory of a private researcher. During the next eight days of your course, you will work on various scenarios aimed at covert monitoring. As a result, you will learn the basics of statically and dynamically shadowing people in a team and using specialist tools such as thermal imaging cameras. After that, you will be coached one-on-one to the specialist level in as many days as you need. In the last three days, you will be tested at a rapid pace, using a three-day scenario.
